Why Miria Recommends: A Gentle Breath of Clarity
Myrtle is one of my powerhouse essentials. I first discovered it in Australia with an aromatherapy friend who used it for respiratory issues, colds, sniffles, and coughs. It is really gentle yet powerful—I actually prefer the smell to Eucalyptus. I don't leave home without it; it's one of the two aromatherapy essentials I rely on for so many things.
Crucially, Myrtle is gentle enough to use on babies (when properly diluted), unlike some stronger oils that are too harsh.
Hint for a Blocked Nose: Put a few drops on a folded tissue paper and breathe in until breathing becomes clearer.
For Colds and Coughs: Rub a properly diluted blend on the neck and chest 2-3 times a day, especially before bed, so you can breathe and lessen coughing at night.
What is Myrtle Oil?
Myrtle oil is an essential oil steam-distilled from the leaves and twigs of the Myrtus communis shrub. It has a beautiful, fresh, and slightly sweet aroma. Its unique chemical profile makes it a kinder alternative to stronger respiratory oils while remaining highly effective.
I use Pure Myrtle as a tool for targeted wellness, both for inhalation and properly diluted for topical applications.
For Acute Symptoms: When I have a sniffle, I put a couple of drops in a tissue and sniff it to help clear my nose.
Holistic Treatment: As I practise reflexology, I often use a diluted oil on a specific point in the foot associated with the lungs. Applying Myrtle to the feet is a good precursor to saying "hello" to the internal organs. This method helps to clear and lighten the whole body.
What to Expect:
Aroma: A fresh, clean, and slightly camphorous scent, but much softer and sweeter than Eucalyptus.
Gentle Nature: It is a mild and safe oil, but it is concentrated. It must be properly diluted before use on sensitive skin areas.
Versatile Use: The pure oil is great for inhalation (on a tissue) and for custom blending into your own soothing chest rubs.
Myrtle Oil is a beautiful way to invite calm, clear breathing, and gentle balance into your daily wellness ritual.

Patch Testing & Allergies:
Always perform a patch test on the back of your hand and wait for five minutes. Although our oils are gentle, some people can have allergic reactions.
Pregnancy Warning:
All oils apart from pure Castor Oil are not suitable if you are pregnant. This is because aromatherapy oils can cause allergic reactions during pregnancy.
